To improve the field of knowledge in Evidence-based Medicine for clinical practice. This means to add to the scientific understanding of how scientific studies can be applied in clinical practice and what needs more study. Once the information is known, then SEMPI will help practicing professionals learn as well as give a place to provide feedback for future improvements.
SEMPI is a nonprofit, 501(c)4, headquartered in Minneapolis, MN. It represents, however, many practicing professionals across the United States, who are interested in the goal of using evidence-based medicine to improve the practice of medicine for the benefit of patients and the community. The participants who serve on panels represent a broad array of organizations, including the military, academic health institutions, private practices, Evidence-based Practice Centers, clinics, and hospitals. The topic areas of expertise vary, as well as the professional health degrees that they hold. All of this all- encompassing array of experience and background gives the content development process a more robust quality. The panels represent more than just one local “practice” or specialty or organizational perspective. This means that the diversity of panelists’ backgrounds ensures there is greater generalizability of the recommendations.
